Oakland's All-Star starting third baseman finished ahead of Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera.
Oakland Athletics third baseman Josh Donaldson earned 96 points in the voting for MVP for eighth place, but Mike Trout was the unanimous selection of 30 members from the Baseball Writers Association of America. Victor Martinez of the Detroit Tigers was second, and Michael Brantley of the Cleveland Indians was third.
Donaldson received a second place vote from David Coleman of the Fort Bend Herald, third place votes from John Tomase of the Boston Herald and Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, and fourth place votes from Tom Verducci of SI.com and Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News. Overall, Donaldson appeared on 24 ballots, each ranking 10 players.
